Sophie Taeuber-Arp Research
Sophie Taeuber has been known for producing a wide-ranging form of expression of art included painting, dance, tapestry, weaving, drawing, embroidery, furniture and interior design, photography, architecture, set design and puppet-making, all with equal intensity and playfulness.
Sophie Taeuber-Arp's Dada sculptures look a lot likewooden pear shaped heads which are mounted on multiple wooden pedstels for support, painted in bright colours to present a side or frontal view.
"They also have a dual function as works of art and as everyday objects: they are both portraits and hat-stands. Her work in these years expresses her concept of simplifying, going back to the basic elements and then constructing from scratch in the manner best suited to the task at hand."
